By 1932, he turned to a form of surrealism brutal partly on Pablo Picassos works from somewhat 1925 to 1928. A self-taught artisan and existentialist, Bacon ironically used Christian iconography in order to grow the masterpiece that would bring him to the forefront of the art wo rld in the 1940s. The Three Studies for the Base of a agony (1944) triptych is largely considered Bacons initiatory mature piece.
